The Flying Mangos

The Flying Mangos are an acoustic Latin-ska-calypso band drawing on the rhythms of Latin America, New Orleans, Hawaii and the Caribbean. Their music has been played on National Public Radio’s Christmas carol mash-up, and they won the 2009 Folk Factory People’s Choice Award. They feature tunes by Bob Marley, Harry Belafonte, and the Boss Nova giant Antonio Jobim.

The Flying Mangos: Lead singer Jake Michael been played on WXPN and WDIY. Conga player Pam Graboyes and timbale player Jack Otto are masters of Afro-Cuban drumming. And classically-trained Hugh Sutherland is a 30-year veteran of the fretless bass. Together they play heart thumping music for a sunny day, or any day that ought to be sunny.
